What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a chronic disease in which the body does not make, or does not properly use, insulin. Insulin is the hormone that helps your body use the energy from sugar, starches and other foods.

About 16 million Americans (1 out of 20 people) have diabetes, but only half know they have it and are getting treatment.
Diabetes is the fourth leading cause of death by disease and the leading cause of new cases of kidney disease, blindness, amputation, and impotence.

Heart disease and stroke are 2 to 4 times more common in people with diabetes.

What is normal blood sugar range?

The normal fasting blood glucose range for a non-diabetic is 70-110 mg/dl. One to two hours after meals, normal blood glucose levels should be less than 140 mg/dl. These ranges are for non-diabetics. Your doctor will determine the range that is appropriate for you. For any questions or concerns or for more information, please contact us at 1-888-848-8933. Working Hours are 9:00A.M. to 5:00P.M. Monday through Friday.

How often should I test my blood glucose?

Results of the 10-year Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) proved that keeping your blood glucose level as close to normal as possible can reduce the risk of complications involving the eyes, kidneys and nervous system by up to 60 percent. How often you test is best decided by you and your healthcare professional. It may vary according to your age, the type of diabetes you have, any medication you are using, whether you are ill, and any physical or emotional changes in your life.
